Crypto Market Slips as Fed Hike Bets and ETF Outflows Weigh

Cryptocurrencies predominantly experienced a downturn over the last 24 hours as markets adjusted to the heightened expectations of interest rate increases from the Federal Reserve following assertive remarks from the Fed Chair. The abrupt increase in geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, coupled with the rise in crude oil prices, has contributed to the prevailing bearish sentiment in cryptocurrency markets. The net outflows from U.S.-listed Bitcoin Spot ETF products have also exerted pressure on market sentiment. Losses were constrained by reports of Bitcoin acquisitions by Strategy Inc. Bitcoin reached a peak of $79,373 in the last 24 hours. Overall cryptocurrency market capitalisation has experienced a slight decline from its previous stable position. The sentiment within the cryptocurrency market experienced an uplift due to revived optimism regarding potential institutional backing for the sector. Virginia-headquartered Strategy Inc announced on Monday the acquisition of 4,603 Bitcoins valued at $369.7 million during the period from August 24 to August 30. The prominent Bitcoin treasury firm under the leadership of Michael Saylor has increased its total Bitcoin holdings to 845,050. The average cost of the holdings stands at $75,412.

The CMC Crypto Fear and Greed Index, which monitors sentiment in the cryptocurrency market, remains stable at 75, indicating a state of Greed. The index was at 81, indicating Extreme Greed, a week ago, and at 34, reflecting Fear, a month earlier. In the last 24 hours, the liquidation of long positions in the cryptocurrency market has notably surpassed that of short positions. Liquidation of long positions totalled $298 million, whereas liquidation of short positions reached $139 million. The total liquidations over the past 24 hours amounted to $437 million. Overall crypto market capitalisation has decreased by 0.54 percent overnight, now standing at $2.64 trillion. The decline in total cryptocurrency market capitalisation was matched by an approximate 98-percent surge in trading volumes. At present valuations, Bitcoin commands a 60.10 percent share of the cryptocurrency market. Ethereum constitutes 11.35 percent of the market, whereas other cryptocurrencies, including stablecoins, represent 28.55 percent of the total cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, is currently trading 0.48 percent lower on an overnight basis at $78,333.78, approximately 38 percent below the all-time high of $126,198.07 recorded on October 7, 2025. The leading cryptocurrency has experienced a decline of 1.6 percent over the past week. Year-to-date losses have risen to 24.2 percent.

Bitcoin Spot ETF products in the U.S. experienced net outflows amounting to $202 million on Friday, contrasting with net inflows of $242 million on Thursday and $232 million on Wednesday. The net outflows occurred following a streak of nine consecutive sessions characterised by net inflows. ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF experienced net outflows amounting to $115 million. Bitcoin remains in the 12th position in the global ranking of all assets according to market capitalisation data. The leading cryptocurrency is situated between Saudi Aramco, ranked 11th, and Meta Platforms, ranked 13th. Ethereum is trading 0.63 percent lower at $2,459.71, approximately 50 percent below its all-time high of $4,953.73. The leading alternate coin has experienced a decline of 2.4 percent over the past week. Ethereum Spot ETF products in the U.S. experienced a decrease in net inflows, dropping to $102 million on Friday from $226 million on Thursday. iShares Ethereum Trust ETF topped with net inflows of $84 million.

U.S.-listed Hyperliquid Spot ETF products experienced inflows amounting to $5 million on Friday. Dogecoin is currently positioned at the 10th rank, experiencing a decline of 2.9 percent in overnight trading, with a price of $0.0829.
