Ethereum Faces $2,200 Risk as Bearish Breakdown Threatens

Ethereum’s recent recovery has experienced a significant reversal, bringing the price back to around $2.4K and maintaining a bearish breakdown as the predominant outlook. Escalating tensions between Iran and the US introduce a potential risk-off headwind; however, their influence on ETH appears speculative rather than a definitive cause of the decline. On the daily timeframe, Ethereum’s rebound toward $2.48K-$2.52K did not produce enduring follow-through. The most recent bearish candle has driven the price back into the $2.36K-$2.44K demand zone and below the lower boundary of the ascending channel. This rejection indicates that buyers have not yet managed to reclaim control, even after multiple attempts to uphold the nearby support level.

The primary scenario suggests a potential breakdown should ETH secure a daily close below $2.36K, subsequently followed by a decline past the recent wick lows near $2.32K. Such a move would confirm a deterioration beyond a temporary trendline breach and could extend the correction toward the $2.2K-$2.27K region. However, demand has not yet definitively faltered. A sustained reclaim of $2.44K and the channel boundary would weaken the immediate bearish outlook. Buyers would then need to surpass the range of $2.48K to $2.52K to disrupt the pattern of declining highs and facilitate a more extensive recovery.  The 4-hour chart indicates an upward breakout from the falling wedge pattern, subsequently encountering a significant rejection around $2.52K. Ethereum has relinquished a significant portion of that gain and reverted to the demand zone, suggesting that the breakout did not succeed in creating a sustainable bullish transition.

The price is currently nearing the previous descending resistance in the range of $2.39K to $2.4K. While this could serve as retest support, the rapidity of the reversal renders the recovery susceptible. Losing this area would bring the 2.35K-2.36K demand boundary into focus, followed by the recent lows around 2.32K-2.34K. A sustained break beneath those lows would favour bearish continuation toward $2,270 and potentially $2,200. Conversely, maintaining the retest and recovering above $2.44K would sustain the breakout-retest interpretation. A subsequent move through 2.52K would be necessary to provide stronger evidence that buyers have overcome the latest selling pressure. The one-month Binance ETH/USDT liquidation heatmap reveals a consistent estimated liquidation cluster in the range of $2.15K to $2.2K.

The bright, extended band signifies a considerable concentration of potential liquidation exposure beneath the current price, rendering it especially pertinent to the bearish breakdown scenario. If Ethereum loses the $2.36K demand zone and the recent lows, this cluster could become a downside liquidity target. Long liquidations triggered during an extended decline may amplify selling pressure as price approaches the region, potentially accelerating a move toward $2.2K. The cluster’s proximity to the deeper technical support area underscores its importance; however, it does not assure that ETH will attain or bounce back from that level. Currently, the unsuccessful recovery and renewed demand pressures maintain the relevance of this downside pool, whereas a sustained recovery above $2.44K-$2.52K would diminish its immediate significance.
