A significant drop in anticipated rate hikes from the Federal Reserve contributed to a recovery in crypto markets, pushing Bitcoin to a 24-hour peak of $82,539. The dollar’s retreat and a decline in crude oil prices have bolstered sentiment in the crypto market, resulting in an increase of over 1.5 percent in overall market capitalisation in the last 24 hours. The CME FedWatch tool that monitors the expectations of interest rate traders currently indicates the probability of an additional quarter-percent rate increase in October at 14.9 percent, compared to 27.7 percent the previous day and 17.7 percent a week prior. Regarding the December FOMC, the likelihood of a half percentage rate increase from the current range of 3.75-4.0 percent has fallen to 13.3 percent, down from 23.6 percent the previous day and 14.3 percent a week prior. The probability of a quarter percentage rate increase has risen to 77.3 percent, up from 65.7 percent the previous day and 69.8 percent a week ago. The reduction in expectations for Fed rate hikes occurred following remarks made by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh during the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok. Warsh declined to make predictions regarding the outcome of the FOMCs but recognised a simultaneous tightening by central banks globally.
With the Fed Chair indicating that the global economy had progressed mostly as anticipated by the Fed, markets eased concerns regarding inflation readings that might prompt the Fed to implement another rate hike in October. The remarks from the Fed Chair also overshadowed the negative feelings surrounding cryptocurrencies that were sparked by the decline in technology and artificial intelligence stocks. The six-currency Dollar Index, which had fallen to 102.06 on Thursday, has dropped further to 101.62, enhancing crypto market sentiment. In light of the significant adjustments in rate hike expectations, along with the dollar’s decline and the drop in crude oil prices, the total market capitalisation of cryptocurrencies has increased by 1.53 percent, reaching $2.76 trillion. The rally is accompanied by a significant dip in trading volumes. Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, is currently trading 0.92 percent higher on an overnight basis at $81,961.77. Despite a 7.95 percent increase over the last 30 days, Bitcoin is currently experiencing year-to-date losses of 7.6 percent.
