Cryptocurrencies continue to trade within a narrow range on Thursday, despite global markets responding positively to the softer producer price inflation figures from the U.S. and the drop in global crude oil prices. The sentiment in the crypto market appeared to diverge from the tech-heavy Nasdaq, which has rallied close to a percent. The decline in global crude oil prices, an easing in sovereign bond yields, or the U.S. dollar’s retreat against a basket of six currencies did not succeed in propelling cryptocurrencies onto an overnight positive trajectory. In the last 24 hours, the total market capitalisation of cryptocurrencies has decreased by nearly a quarter percent, remaining just below the flatline, while Bitcoin has slightly increased compared to its levels from the previous day. The leading cryptocurrency is currently trading near $63,768. Data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics indicated that producer price inflation remained unchanged in July, compared to a decline of -0.1 percent in June and a market expectation of 0.2 percent. The core component thereof registered at 0.2 percent, a decline from the 0.4 percent observed in the preceding month and below the market forecast of 0.3 percent.
In light of the subdued producer price inflation data, market participants have adjusted their expectations regarding potential rate hikes from the Federal Reserve, which has positively influenced sentiment within the cryptocurrency market. Expectations for a pause by the Fed in September have risen to 66 percent, up from 59 percent the previous day. Similarly, the likelihood of maintaining the current situation in October has risen to 51 percent, up from 45 percent the previous day. Markets had previously assigned a probability of only 25 percent for a Fed rate hold in December. With both consumer and producer price inflation readings exhibiting no adverse surprises, markets have elevated the expectations of a pause to 31 percent.
